The movie was directed by Zoya Akhtar and revolves around the relationship between three friends, Kabir (Ranveer Singh), Pia (Anushka Sharma) and Coochkaka (Deepika Padukone). The film is set in the city of Nawabs—Lucknow—and is beautifully shot. They say that all you need to do is watch the first ten minutes of the movie for it to captivate you. The movie has been highly acclaimed by both Bollywood and the media and many awards and nominations were conferred to its actors and the director. The film has received a number of critical acclaims including: "Bachna Ae Haseen" was declared a "Hit" at box office on the first day itself, thus creating history for itself. As of 23 March 2015, it had collected (Rs. 22 million). The soundtrack was composed by Jalees Sherwani with lyrics penned by Irshad Kamil and Oscar Fernandes under the music label T-Series. The song "Hey Kaun Ho" was choreographed by Farah Khan. Anushka Sharma posted a picture with the cast of the movie on her Instagram page on 17 November 2014. The picture is captioned, "Festive with you all @bfreeinofficial @bhagyasharma27 @zanmani @mizshellawat." She added that it was a memorable experience working with the cast and crew of this historical love story. The film's first look poster was unveiled on YouTube on 28 September 2014 by the director Zoya Akhtar. It also released its first official trailer on 1 October 2014.
